Haim singer Este recalls being on verge of ‘full-blown seizure’ due to type 1 diabetes during past Glastonbury set: ‘I passed out’

Este Haim has shared with her 2022 audience how during a previous set at the festival with her sisters, she due to her type 1 .

However, during the incident – which she said took place around a decade ago – she was determined to return to finish the performance… and that she did.

On Saturday, Haim returned to the Pyramid Stage, a day after delivered her history-making headliner’s performance and shortly before ’s showcase tonight.

During an interlude between songs, Este, 36, explained that earlier that day, she’d been thinking about how she and her siblings have performed at the iconic festival several times.

Around 10 years ago during their first stint at the Worthy Farm event, she recalled how she was so excited to perform that she forgot to eat – which proved to have serious consequences given she’s a type 1 diabetic, a condition that causes the glucose levels in the blood to become too high.

‘I was so excited to play that I forgot to eat, and I got on stage, and three songs in, I was like, oh, I’m about to have a full blown seizure and pass out,’ Este said. ‘I went to the side of the stage and I passed out.’

However, that didn’t mark the end to Este’s time on stage, after she had a little sugar to help give her a boost.

‘It felt a little like, I was like, I can’t not finish this Glastonbury set. So when I came to, they rolled me out on a chair, but I f**king finished that Glastonbury set,’ she recollected, as the audience cheered.

‘And it feels very full circle to be here now in front of you,’ she added.

Este was first diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when she was 14 years old, having exhibited symptoms of the condition.

She experienced blurred vision and weight loss around that time, as well as becoming thirsty as a result.

Speaking about how she deals with the condition, Este said, according to : ‘I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2000 and from then it was my dad’s mission for us to play as many charity gigs to help find a cure for diabetes.

‘The trick is to stay as healthy as possible. There are times when I think – “Why do I have to put up with this and nobody else has to deal with it?” But it has become part of my life now.’

Another high-profile celebrity with type 1 diabetes is Nick Jonas, .

‘I have full control of my day to day life with this disease, and I’m so grateful to my family and loved ones who have helped me every step of the way. Never let anything hold you back from living your best life,’ the singer said in a social media post shared in 2018.
