The body of a one-year-old boy has been found in a creek in Byron Township in Michigan, a day after he went missing.

Noah Alan Jordan, who was close to turning two years old, disappeared on Sunday morning. His body was found in Buck Creek around 9am on Monday, about a mile north of where he is believed to have gone in the water.

‘It’s always hard with kids, especially,’ Kent County Sheriff’s Sgt Eric Brunner told . ‘You work extra hard.’

Noah disappeared around 11.05am from a home in the Cutler Estates near Division Avenue South and M-6, according to .

Police found footprints near the creek and searched 1 1/2 miles of the body of water on Sunday, Brunner said. Recent rainfall caused the water level to be higher on Sunday, but it dropped more than a foot on Monday.

Divers went into the creek and K9 units and drones were deployed in the search effort that involved multiple agencies.

Sheriff’s deputies suspended the water search around 9pm on Sunday for safety reasons, and resumed on Monday morning, focusing on Buck Creek.

Noah’s body was found near Clay Avenue and 54th Street. Two women hugged and cried as rescuers gathered around his body, according to MLive.com.

The participating agencies included state police troopers, Ottawa County sheriff’s deputies, the Cutlerville Fire Department and the Georgetown Fire Department.

Noah’s cause of death has not yet been determined.

Deputies were with Noah’s family. His parents were distraught but cooperated with investigators.

‘Oftentimes kids just wander away, one minute you see them and one minute you don’t, so there’s nothing to lead us to believe that there was anything suspicious or criminal in nature,’ Brunner said. ‘Our hearts go out to them.’

The Kent County Sheriff’s Office stated it ‘will continue to support the family during this time of grieving’.
