Former first lady and 2016 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has revealed that she contracted the coronavirus.
‘Well, I’ve tested positive for COVID,’ Clinton, 74, on Tuesday evening. ‘I’ve got some mild cold symptoms but am feeling fine.’
The former Secretary of State credited Covid-19 vaccines for her mild symptoms.
‘I’m more grateful than ever for the protection vaccines can provide against serious illness. Please get vaccinated and boosted if you haven’t already!’ she wrote.
Clinton added that her husband, former President Bill Clinton, 75, ‘tested negative and is feeling fine’.
‘He’s quarantining until our household is fully in the clear,’ she , adding lightly, ‘Movie recommendations appreciated!’
Hillary Clinton, who also served as a US senator senator from 2001 to 2009, is the latest political figure to catch the coronavirus. Ex-President Barack Obama disclosed last week that he tested positive for the virus, and that he had a scratchy throat but was ‘feeling fine’.
Earlier on Tuesday, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki announced in a statement that she tested positive for Covid-19 and would not be traveling with President Joe Biden to Belgium and Poland for talks with allies amid Russia’s war on Ukraine. Psaki said she had two ‘socially-distanced’ meetings with Biden the previous day. Biden tested negative for the virus on Tuesday.
Coronavirus cases have dropped dramatically in the US in the past two months after the Omicron variant-driven surge. But BA.2 Omicron subvariant cases have been on the rise in parts of Europe, and US officials on Monday confirmed more than 35,000 cases, with more expected in the future.
Hillary Clinton released her medical history in 2015 ahead of her presidential run. Doctor Lisa Bardack disclosed her previous treatments for concussion, a family history of heart disease and examinations for blood clots and her thyroid gland.
