An intruder was Tasered and shot dead by Secret Service agents after trying to break into the Peruvian Embassy in Washington, DC. Two members of the Secret Service were injured in the incident early Wednesday.

The suspect, who has not been identified, was trying to steal items from the building that houses Peruvian Ambassador to the US, Oswaldo de Rivero, police said.

‘One gunshot victim and two Secret Service Police being evaluated,’ authorities said over radio channels at 8.10am, according to the .

DC Police Chief Robert Contee said that ‘upon the arrival of the officers on the scene, they located an individual who was in the rear of the ambassador’s residence – The Peruvian Embassy’.

‘Once the officers encountered this individual in the back they learned that this individual had smashed out several windows to the backside of this residence,’ Contee said.

Cops first tried to subdue the intruder using Tasers, but the weapon did not stop him, Contee said.

‘The officers fired their Tasers; they did not take effect,’ Contee said. ‘As these weapons did not take effect, ultimately, the officers end up pulling their service weapons, firing shots, and now this person is deceased.’

The intruder appeared to be in his late 20s or early 30s and had a metal stake.

Two Secret Service members sustained non-life threatening injuries and were transported to a hospital.

A retired diplomat, de Rivero, 85, was home with his family when they heard the windows shatter.

The Secret Service and DC Metropolitan Police Department are investigating the incident. It was not immediately clear how many shots were fired. The motive remains unclear.

Several emergency vehicles were reportedly spotted speeding down Connecticut Avenue after gunshots were heard outside the embassy.

In addition, multiple unmarked vehicles were seen going in and out of the crime scene on the 3000 block of Garrison Street. It is a residential neighborhood called Forest Hills, with mansions.
