Six high school aged girls were reportedly in a highway crash involving a semi truck in Oklahoma on Tuesday.
The crash occurred at the intersection of US Highways 22 and 377 at 12.30pm local time in Tishomingo, which is about 120 miles southeast of Oklahoma City.
The six girls were in a small passenger vehicle and died, according to the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety.
Information on the girls’ ages and the condition of the truck driver were not immediately released.
Tishomingo Public Schools confirmed the deaths in a social media post to parents and the community.
Tishomingo Superintendent Bobby Waitman said: ‘We feel it is imperative that we inform you that our district has suffered a great loss today involving high school students.
‘Our hearts are broken and we are grieving with our students and staff.’
The school district said it would offer counseling to the campus community.
