Student arrested after bringing gun to Texas high school

A student is in custody after bringing a gun to Clear Brook High School in Texas.

Police arrested the student with an unloaded gun on Wednesday morning, according to the Clear Creek Independent School District.

The high school was placed on lockdown as a precaution as authorities searched for ammunition.

‘There has been a report of a student with an unloaded gun on campus. Police have the student in custody,’ the school district stated on its shortly before 9am. ‘All students are safe. Police are searching the building as part of their protocol.’

At 9.10am, the school district posted that the lockdown had been lifted.

‘The student was arrested and the search of the school for ammunition is complete by law enforcement. No ammunition was found,’ the district wrote.

‘The school day will continue. Parents, please be patient if you are waiting to check out your student.’

It comes a day after a in Uvalde, Texas, killing at least 19 fourth grade students and two adults. Authorities have identified Salvador Ramos, 18, as the lone shooter.

Ramos entered the campus and began shooting, and was barricaded inside the school. A border patrol agent is believed to have shot and him. Ramos allegedly posted disturbing images on the Internet before going on the rampage, and apparently messaged a woman about his plan before carrying it out.

Numerous school districts across Texas have issued statements in the aftermath of the Uvalde elementary school massacre. Many campuses have pledged to add police patrols on campus.

A separate incident similar to the one at Clear Brook High School occurred on Wednesday morning at George Ranch High School, according to the Lamar Consolidated Independent School District.
