have agreed to allow to remain at Inter on loan for a second season.
The Belgium international was allowed to return to Inter last month with the Serie A club paying an €8 million (£6.9m) loan fee.
The initial agreement claimed that Lukaku would join Inter on loan for the upcomign campaign only.
But according to The Telegraph, Chelsea and Inter have an agreement in priciple for the 29-year-old to stay at San Siro for two seasons.
The report claims that Chelsea are hopeful that after two years, Inter will be in a stronger financial position to sign Lukaku permanently.
Lukaku, who joined Chelsea from Inter for £97.5m last year, would have two years left on his contract in the summer of 2024.
Speaking last week, Lukaku branded his decision to join Chelsea last summer as a ‘mistake’.
‘The biggest challenge of my career will be this season here. I left. It was a mistake,’ said the striker.
‘Now I am happy to be wearing this jersey, the team knows what we need to do, it’ll be a great challenge this season and we need to continue like this.’
Thomas Tuchel, meanwhile, has insisted he was open to keeping Lukaku at Chelsea despite his poor first season back at Stamford Bridge.
‘There has never been a meeting where I said, like, ‘I want this guy out,’’ Tuchel said.
‘I was always clear: if he stays, we will do everything to put him in a better place, to put him in better shape, to improve my style of coaching, our style of playing, to make him a better fit.
‘It was always a possibility he stayed but Romelu made it very clear he wants to leave and the owners took the decision to make the decision straight away.
‘I am not happy that we couldn’t bring more out of him. Maybe it would have just taken a bit more time, a bit more fitness, a bit more, like, stiffness, adaption in our game.
‘Who knows? But we will now not find out.
‘Once Romelu gave his clear opinion on the situation and there was a solution on the table the owners made their choice and had my blessing.’
