Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro and one of his assistants are in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State to watch the NPFL fixture between Akwa United and Plateau United on Saturday, Completesports.com reports.
A picture of Peseiro arriving the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, venue for the game was published on Akwa United’s Twitter handle.
The Portuguese and his assistant were received by a member of NFF Technical Committee and Chairman of Akwa United Paul Bassey.
It is Peseiro’s second visit at a league venue since becoming head coach of the Super Eagles.
Last weekend he was in Ilorin, Kwara State, for the league encounter between Kwara United and Sunshine Stars.
Peseiro’s frequent visits to league venues will serve as motivation for home-based players who could be considered for selection to feature for the Eagles.
On 29 December 2021, Peseiro reached a verbal agreement with the Nigeria Football Federation to replace Gernot Rohr as Super Eagles head coach.
He was supposed to travel to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, but strictly as an “observer” while interim manager Augustine Eguavoen led the team.
However. the deal eventually fell through, as Eguavoen was retained at the end of the tournament. On 15 May 2022, Peseiro was finally appointed as the new head coach.
After losing his first two games, a double header friendlies against Mexico and Ecuador, he led the Eagles to wins against Sierra Leone and São Tomé and Principe in the 2023 AFCON qualifiers.
And under his reign so far, the Eagles recorded their biggest ever win, a 10-0 thrashing of São Tomé and Principe in their 2023 AFCON second Group A qualifier in Morocco.
