Liverpool legend, Ian Rush, has revealed that Real Madrid possess a slight edge to win this season’s Champions League over Liverpool.
Recall that both teams face-off in Paris after Liverpool eliminated Villarreal in the semi-final a few days ago, while Real Madrid knocked Manchester City out of the competition.
It is also a repeat of the 2018 final, where Real Madrid defeated Liverpool 3-1 to win the trophy.
Speaking in an interview with William Hill, Rush said, “It is great to get to any final but to get to the Champions League final… Most people probably didn’t expect Real Madrid, most people probably expected Manchester City. But it is Real Madrid, they beat us a few years ago, so I think it is a bit of payback time.
“It’s going to be a very tight game. When you look at Madrid, they have been down in so many games – Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Manchester City. They are a team that never gives up, so nothing is going to surprise me in this game.”
Rush added, “I think there will be goals in it. But if we go 2-0, 3-0 up, don’t take things for granted as we have seen what Real Madrid can do – they are the comeback kings.
“But Real Madrid (in the Champions League final) is obviously going to be very, very tough. Madrid will take a lot out of the Manchester City win, they have already won their league, so they can prepare exactly for this final, whereas Liverpool’s minds might be all over the place at the moment.”
This will be the third time Madrid and Liverpool will clash in the final of the Champions League.
In their first ever final meeting in Paris in 1981, Liverpool triumphed 1-0 to land their third European title.
Then in 2018, Madrid got their pound of flesh when the two teams clashed in the 2018 final and won 3-1.
Welsh skipper Gareth Bale bagged a brace while Karim Benzema was also on target for Madrid.
The game would always be remembered for the injury former Madrid skipper Sergio Ramos inflicted on Mohamed Salah, which saw the Egyptian substituted early in the first half.
